About me

I am a Southampton based textile and mixed media artist taking my inspiration, like many artists, from the surrounding countryside and seashore. My love of nature's colours and textures, its decay and regeneration, its unique landscape and reaction to our weather and seasons, is a constant source of inspiration for me. Observations of sight, sounds and awareness are also incorporated into the creation of my work on a very reactive basis which add to having a "sense of place" to each piece.

I work in a semi abstract way in mixed media which include, acrylic and inks, pastels and crayons, mixed papers and fabrics with hand and machine stitch, often using fragments of old maps too, which show a sense of place. I constantly experiment with new ideas and layer my work to produce a 3D effect which draws the viewer in.

My aim is to produce work which the viewer finds interesting and intriguing and the subject matter of which is not always obvious.

My approach is to play and experiment and to see what happens as I work. Many pieces are not planned and just happen, yet some take a long while to take shape and evolve, but all must bring me joy, and much more importantly, to the viewer too.

Hampshire Open Studios 2023

Thank you to all those who took the trouble to visit our exhibition this year. The weather was kind against many of you were able to enjoy Colleen’s beautiful garden as well as our art.

It was good to see familiar faces and chat with so many like minded people, explain our work and to offer our expertise when requested. Good to see you and thank you from Colleen and I for making it another successful open studio.

Artfest

This is a photo of my stand at the ArtFest
The first ArtFest held at The Warsash Sailing Club on Saturday and was a roaring success.  Sea Sky Gallery and Warsash Sailing Club joined forces to hold an event where Artists and Makers from both sides of the River Hamble could promote their wares.

Over 20 stands of wonderful work from a variety of talented people were displayed in the Club where visitors could chat to stall holders, watch demonstrations and of course spend their money.  Many thanks to Debs and Kate for all their hard work in organising the wonderful day, hopefully to be repeated next year!

Opposite Ends 2024

A new collection of work from both Jo & Chris was well received this year with many sales but more importantly wonderful comments especially how our work compliments each other. Thank you to those who visited and for those who weren’t able to, a few pictures of the exhibition
